CHAPTER TWELVE

A Med Team met Natasha and her team as they exited the dropship. They helped Allyssa up onto a maglev gurney and began attending to her wound as the gurney’s AI moved along slowly, following a preset course back to the Med Bay.

“I’ll come by and check on you in a little while, Allyssa,” Natasha told her. “I know you’ll be fine. Hang in there.”

Allyssa gave Natasha a thumbs up and closed her eyes.

On board the dropship, Andrew spoke to Savannah while plucking bone shards out of her skin and sealing the wounds with a dermal adhesive applicator.

“Savannah,” he said, “when I’m done with tending to your wounds, I want you to put on a jumpsuit and wait out here in the cockpit, okay?”

She flashed him puppy dog eyes and pouty lips for a second. “But, baby … I want to be with you.”

“You are, remember?” He pointed at his head and then hers. “The nanobots established a link. You can contact me anytime, anywhere, if you need me. Now, you wait here and let me take care of things. They’ll be evacuating all the colonists from the planet up here over the next several hours. I’m going to create an identity profile for you and slip it into the colonist roster. Once the colonists start boarding, I’ll enter you into the system as an evacuee and come get you. Then we’ll physically be together … all the way back to Earth. When we get there, you can come live with me. Sound good?”

Andrew finished sealing the last wound. Savannah’s eyes relaxed and glazed dreamy while her head tilted and swayed, then she fixed him with a gaze that was both sensual and hungry.

“Baby, that sounds delicious. Perfectly delicious.”

She leaned forward and kissed him on the lips, pressing hers firmly against his. When she leaned back, she tapped his nose with her index finger.

“Okay, sugah. I’ll be a good girl and stay here while you take care of business. Run along.” She shooed him with both hands, picked up the jumpsuit, and walked into the cockpit as Paulie was coming out.

“Um …” Paulie said turning to look at her as she moved past him. “Who are you, lady?”

Savannah stopped and was about to greet Paulie when Andrew hollered at him.

“Her name’s Savannah, Paulie. She’s with me. But you never saw her here. Understand?”

“Uh … O-kay …?”

“I’ll explain to you later, Paulie. Just do me a solid and don’t say a word. Natasha is on board with it too.”

The corners of Paulie’s mouth turned down, and he nodded his head, then he shrugged and gave Andrew a thumbs up.

“No problem, man,” he assured Andrew, and they walked down the ramp into the hangar bay to join Natasha, Camille, and Hiroki, who stood waiting for them.

“You done taking care of your girlfriend?” Camille asked, hand on hip and eyebrow cocked.

“Yes, I am. And I thank all of you for your discretion in this matter. I’ll have the profile created and loaded to the colony roster within the hour.
